A Whole New World | My Magical Night with Aladdin on Broadway
Wow. Just… wow. I'm still living in the magic of Agrabah after a truly unforgettable night at the New Amsterdam theatre. I'm used to crafting stories, but last night, I got to witness storytelling on a scale that was truly breathtaking. My date with Aladdin on Broadway finally happened. I’ve been dreaming of this moment ever since last summer, when a sneak peek with Michael James Scott (Genie) at "Broadway in Bryant Park" completely swept me off my feet.
Last night, the full show was even more breathtaking than I could have imagined. Its incredible choreography, stunning sets, and amazing costumes filled the theatre with an incredible energy, and I couldn't stop smiling. While every performer was fantastic, two characters truly stole the show for me. The Genie's charisma and comedic timing were pure love and joy, and the completely hilarious performance by Don Darryl Rivera as Iago was an unexpected delight that I won't soon forget.
A Little History on Broadway
Broadway is a global phenomenon, a truly brilliant example to the power of live performance. Its history is as rich and dramatic as the shows it hosts. Did you know that New York City's first significant theatre was established in the mid-18th century, around 1750, when a resident company was set up at the Theatre on Nassau Street? From humble beginnings, it evolved through minstrel shows, vaudeville, and the Golden Age of musicals, becoming the iconic entertainment hub we know today. It's a place where dreams are made and legends are born. I am confident that every curtain rise promises an unforgettable journey.
Why the Broadway Version of Aladdin is a Must-See
Now, let's talk about the magic itself: Aladdin! For me, like many of you, the animated film was a cherished part of my childhood. The Broadway adaptation takes that beautiful story and elevates it to a whole new level of theatrical brilliance. You've got all the classic songs - "A Whole New World," "Friend Like Me," "Prince Ali" - brought to life with incredible sets, dazzling costumes, and choreography that will absolutely sweep you off your feet. As someone who appreciates flawless execution and attention to details, I am a huge admirer of this masterpiece. The visual storytelling alone is a masterclass in captivating an audience, especially with the truly unforgettable moment when the magic carpet takes flight beneath a sky shimmering with thousands of stars.
